I like the idea of having a diesel motor in my Tacoma.

I am thinking about swapping one into my truck. I have a 4 cyl now & I want more pulling power, but don't want to sacrifice the mileage (when not hauling) that I currently get. If I could get more power & better mileage, even better.

Out of all the diesel motors out there which one would you suggest for a swap?

    Steve

Very good engine. I work on a lot of onan generators that use the Kubota.

I read some topics on here before where someone was talking about the Kubota diesel, heck I got one of their diesel zero turn mowers and absolutely love it. Gets awesome fuel mileage as well as never a problem with it...

I just don't know if you would have the right torque band with the cam grind they use for the offroad equipment, to apply it on the road in a truck(Taco)... I know guys have messed around with other diesels from the offroad equipment and made them work for driving and towing on the road, just not heard anything about a Kubota doing so... Would be interesting.

There has been some of the VW diesels put in sammys and such, little short on the power end but they got awesome fuel mileage though. The 4 banger cummins would have the torque, but I am not sure of the extra weight of this power plant in a Tacoma... Torque of that motor is awesome, you would need to fishplate all the frame and engine mount areas to keep that beast held in place LOL...

Good topic to visit about, I will be wanting to see what might be done on this line of thinking with the diesel power plant. Darn shame we can't get the hy-lux trucks here... Know nothing about the diesel they use, just figure its like the truck, which speaks for itself.
