    Hello,

I just changed the manual transmission fluid on my 04 base, reg. cab with W59 transmission.

I didn't find a magnet on either the fill or drain plug. Is it normal? Also, can someone comment on the color of the oil remains in the plug? I think the transmission fluid has never been changed in the past 110k miles.

Also, I accidentally torqued the drain plug to 30 ft*lb (was using a digital torque adapter). Would it be a major problem?

    Thanks!

BTW: I bought 3 quarts of redline MT90 and it's pretty awesome. It instantly smoothed out the action between 1st and 2nd gear.

Nowdays, they put a round magnet stuck to the pan close to the drain plug. You would have to actually remove the pan in order to see it.

Never mind, just read you meant "manual" my bad!

By the looks of the oil on the plug it looks line water may have been introduced to it.

I just changed my trans oil a couple weeks ago and scraped some gunk out of the drain plug with a small screwdriver. Didn't seem magnetic at all to me. There was some brass flecks and some shit that looked like an eraser on the end of a pencil, I'm guessing it was some bits of gasket material.:notsure:

I'm sure you'll be fine with 30 ft-lbs also. The FSM says 27 ft-lbs, so you barely over torqued it anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. I read several threads regarding changing the fluids and probably just mixed up the plugs on tranny and diff.

I did my oil change on the diff and 5 speed trans and transfer case and the diff has a magnet but I don't understand why the transmission and transfer case don't, seems strange to me, anyone know if the diff magnet will work for the transmission and transfer case, they are all a 24mm head
