Prerunner/4x4 engine swap questions

Anybody swap a 3.4L from a 03 taco prerunner with auto trans into a 04 taco trd 4x4 with a manual trans? I know the flywheels are different, but somebody mentioned to me that the cranks are different from a 2wd automatic to a 4x4 manual, is this true? My truck is Cali. emissions, does the donor engine also have to be Cali. emissions or are those parts interchangable? I may have located a low mileage engine for my project. Thanks in advance for the info.

 

Parts catalog lists the same crankshaft part number, regardless of automatic or manual. Also same crankshaft from the 2003 and the 2004 models. You should be able to swap out the flywheel on the manual with the flexplate from the automatic and be fine.

 

Thanks Bill, i ordered the motor today. I bought it for $1200.00 with only 69k miles, but i had to pay $285.00 for shipping from Tuscon. Like i mentioned it's out of a 03 prerunner so from what i've read i will have to use the 4x4 oil pan and exhaust manifolds. Thanks again.
