1st gen axle nut size?

Anyone know if its 35 or 36mm for an '04 4WD 3.4L? There are conflicting reports on various sites that it could be both. The FSM doesn't seem to show it (or I couldn't find it in there).

 

I have an 03 4x4 double cab and the nut on mine was 35mm.

 

All the OEM CV nuts I have seen, dozens and dozens, were 35mm. I have seen some "rebuilt" shafts come with new nuts that were 36mm.

 

Good to know. The shaft is a reman one from Autozone, so possibly its the 36mm.

 

I just did mine and it was a 35mm. I thought it was a 36mm from this post http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/21192-how-change-cv-axle-01-04-add-tacoma.html, so that was what I had on hand. The 36mm was a smidge large but it took off the 35mm with no probs. No rounding or deformatino to the axle nut at all.

 

Ditto here, back when time began all I had was a 36mm and it worked just fine, frankly on that big of a nut it did not seem that loose at all.
