Hey Guys, so the other day I noticed that my trucks power steering pump was whining. Checked the fluid and added some, it was fine for about a week. And again I noticed that there was a leak of fluid, from the passenger side of the rack. It's a slow leak and it's just a drop here and there but still it's better to fix it now before it gets worse. I just wanted some opinions on where the leak is coming from, it seems to be around the dust boot and the bolt area shown in the picture. I guess what I'm hoping to not hear is a full rack replacement!

    Thank you
    Tom

I think you can rebuild it but you can get new racck for $300 w/ new inner tie rods.

From the pic it looks like the line may be leaking, check to see if tight.

Thanks man I appreciate the response. I don't have the tools to do it myself, but how hard of a job is it for a shop to do the work?

I have a leaking rack myself, luckily bought a factory remanned rack in the for sale side of the forum.

But, I would look at Jorgen Auto in Ann Arbor. Have used them before and never had a problem with them or the racks.

The one I bought off the forum was no cheaper than theirs, which I would have no problem using...except with Jorgen you have to tie up the price of the core charge until you send your rack back to them.

    Check the TTORA Garage Section....
FYI... Make sure you are using ATF Fluid and not power steering fluid.

So I took it into the shop and found out that the housing of the rack is actually cracked. The truck was in an accident about a month ago. The shop tech said that he's never seen that crack before and it will all get fixed by insurance

Okay, well it seems I used valvoline power steering fluid with stop leak. I mean obviously I have a leak so ill just replace the fluid with ATF. The valvoline bottle says for use in toyotas as well, so I'm not concerned
