Clutch pedal sticking to floor

I had my GF depress the clutch slowly and the slave didn't even move. It doesn't really tell me what the problem is between the two...it just means that it could be either. If it moved, it would have been the master for sure. In any case, I'm starting with the master.

 

if it doesn't move, wouldn't that indicate the MC? that means no hyd pressure is getting to the slave cylinder.

 

I think that is the likely scenario. I was thinking that if the slave was defective, it wouldn't move even if it were receiving pressure. In that case there would probably be a leak though.

 

Update:

Mission accomplished. Master cyl, slave cyl, new clutch fluid all swapped.

I'd rate it a 3/10 on difficulty. Hardest part was getting the right amount of fluid in at the end, needed the gf's help. Took about 3 hours total.

Not really any new advice that wasn't given. I adjusted the master cylinder to match the removed master cylinder, I can see why that would have been a pain had I not. I didn't remove the dash panel for better access to the cotter pin on the pedal, didn't need to. A one man bleeder kit probably could have avoided the GF...but I liked looking up her shorts from under the truck...so I'd do it the same way next time.

Total cost: $90 + 3hrs. Probably saved $400-$500? Just a guess.

 

Sorry to go back an old write up. Experiencing the same problem with my clutch pedal. Any thing you would do different before I make the swamp for the master cylinder? Thanks!

 

@mayday Some people say it's unnecessary, but when I did this job I did a bench bleed on the master cylinder before installing it. Just run some short vinyl tubes from the side of the master cylinder up and into the reservoir, fill it with DOT3 and cycle the piston slowly until the fluid runs clear without any air bubbles. Install the unit with the tubes still in place to avoid a mess, then install the hard lines one at a time.

Make sure to check clutch pedal height when adjusting the push rod length and use grease on the area where the push rod yoke attaches to the pedal to avoid squeaks.

 

This happened to me a month or so ago and it was the master cylinder.

 

Just fixed mine as well. It was the master cylinder.
