I need to replace the air box in my truck as it had previously been broken and glued together with the previous owner. I was curious to know what people thought about using the short ram style intake or the cold air intake style (made by K&N and others). Does it really increase power? Also does it make the engine noticeably louder? My previous car was a corolla and after doing a short ram upgrade the noise under the hood was noticeably increased but power was not. I am basically deciding whether to buy a new/used stock air box or getting a CAI. Any Advice?

Most CAI's like K&N take hot air from the engine bay.....Yes they are louder, not much for a hp gain, if any.
