Buying a used bed, good deal?

I'm in the market for a bed after putting mine into a tree. It's rusted through in some spots so I don't care to fix it. Found color matching locally for $700. It has a spray in liner, no rust. It came off a burn vehicle so the side next to the cab will have to be cleaned, primed, and painted (spray in liner should be easy). Has anyone ever had to buy a bed and/or know what they are going for?

Ok I found one that was sold last year for $1200.

However I also found one in craigslist for 2000 Green Toyota Tacoma
Bed - $350 OBO

so it kinda vaires. I would think $700 would not be too bad but I would try to haggle on the price since you need to do some work to it and it is not in bolt on and go condition.

the only problem wwith buying a different color one, is now you got to get into paint costs, labor to paint and all that good stuff. The first one you mentioned, I wouldnt pay more then 3-500 for it.(yes i changed the price range) lol

Have you received any estimates on having this primed and painted. Also be careful on getting the color matched not to the original but to the color of your truck as it may have faded slightly.

I think it was an older listing, I was just trolling around to see some previous sales to get you a price to compare against. Let me look

Here it is: http://chico.craigslist.org/pts/1058664247.html it is on Chico California. I just chose it to give you a comparable price and to reinforce my opinion that the one you origianlly mentioned for $700 is too expensive. Particularly when you include the body work that needs to be done still.

i called the only body shop in town and guy said it would cost $1500 just to paint the outside of a bed. $700 with a do it yourself priming sounds better

I can sand and paint what needs to be done. Might cost $50 max. I'll also get the taillights and I haggled him for the spare tire but he wouldn't budge on the price
