I need to replace my heater-a/c fan and motor unit on my 2000 Tacoma and was wondering what would be better a genuine Toyota part for $120 or an after market part for between $40-$80? I have read mixed reviews on this particular after market part and was wondering if someone could offer some advice.

    Thanks, tdw63

OEM, especially when you're doing it yourself.

Any suggestions on where to get OEM parts cheaper than the dealer? I used to order parts out of Dallas, TX for a Mazda I had and they were by far the cheapest OEM parts around. Surprisingly it was a dealer. With the online discount they offered and having to pay no tax the shipping costs were more than offset.

One of the things I like about having a Toyota is that, for most applications, OEM is superior (usually more expensive, too) to anything after-market; and it eliminates a lot of the research/risk/guess work that comes with trying to figure out what the best replacement is

For me, it depends on what the part is and where its located. If its a critical part - I'd go with OEM.

Do some google searching for prices on OEM parts. Call multiple dealers and get pricing. You can get a local dealer to 'price match' a cheaper price you've found online (I've done it)

    This.

Not to mention in another 8 to 10 years from now you'll have long forgotten about the extra $40 you spent on a part.

If you have the money, plan on keeping it a while and dont wreck or trade in vehicles all the time stick with oem toyota. The quality parts are what makes these trucks so great.
