I've recently noticed when the a/c is on, or even just when the blowers are on, the acceleration/power is not the same as when their off. It also sounds like the compressor is cycling on/off more frequently. Any chance it's not the compressor that needs replaced? I plan to replace the belts soon as they haven't been changed and truck has 145k-not sure if that could be related to the issue I'm having. Thanks.

that's normal, unless the compressor is dragging or the belt is too tight

If you've never replaced the belts then I doubt they are too tight unless you've tweaked them yourself. Compressor could be going bad and getting tight, but they won't do much compressing when too tight and you should quickly notice your A/C not blowing cold if the compressor is heading south.

I would guess the compressor sucks 20 HP+/- when engaged.

I feel the power drain when my A/C is on. The truck is only 140hp at the wheels, so any drag is going to be felt.
