Nerf Bars Not Mounting Well - Can't Step On Them

So I bought a set of Westin Stainless Steel nerf bars for my 07 tacoma double cab long bed.... they can only mount in one place, which is where the factory ones mount. I had them installed by a local reputable shop.

The problem is, they are only about 3" below the actual bottom of the truck and i cant even stand on them, because the front of my foot hits the truck. They also don't stick out beyond the doors to help prevent dings.

Is anyone else in the situation? Are there other brands that have different mounting kits? A local place told me that it was likely that no matter what brand of steps you buy, they will come with the same mounting bracekt.

 

I bought a pair of westin bars and they fit perfect on my short bed. Low enough down and far enough out to be used.

 

hmmm - I wonder if it's a short bed/long bed issue, that wouldnt make much sense. How far would you guess it is from the step to the floormat of your truck?

 

Never was a big fan of the side step bars. I like the look without em. Makes your truck look lower with em on. Who wants that?

 

Well I do think that is the point... lowering it just a bit so short or elderly folks can get into your truck/suv... Duh.... as far as looks.. I think they add a little extra... bling to the truck..

 

To each his own I guess. I like the look without, and having the extra ground clearance.

 

I think the step bars look good, but for now I'll take the clearance.

 

The Tacomas look more like a BAAAAAAAAAD A$$ED Off-Roading Baja machine without em.

 

I agree and I do some offroading, which is why I don't have any(step bars).

My mods will come. My wife re-enters the work force in 2 weeks. It'll free up some dough. Hopefully I'll get to spend a little.
