You can't engage it unless you're in 4lo.... so..... theoretically, while in 4lo... you probably can't go any faster than 35ish without the engine screaming at you.

If you're able to go faster than that, you don't need the locker. :D

I thought the Manual said you had to be completely stopped. I know you can change into 4hi on the fly up to 25 mph, I think. But elocker full stop then engage.

The question should be - How fast are you going when you NEED to use the locker?

What does your owners manual tell you?

Well, it locks up and goes as fast as you want to. Just know that the faster you go, the greater risk you have of a failure. Straight line driving, unless on sand, should be no problem. Just remember that if you are going to steer, with it locked, it will be much harder. I wouldn't lock it up on asphalt period. Toyota put the restrictions there for liability reasons. Add 4x4 and the locker and you have a very hard to maneuver vehicle. The prerunner didn't have speed regulations because of this. So......bottom line, start slow and work up to speeds that you are comfortable with.

The "warning label" on my drivers door indicates up to 5 mph.

The locker shouldn't be engaged at anything more than 5mph and operated above 15mph.

    But I play it safe.

Straight line driving, except for sand. Meaning, straight line on any terrain, but turning and such on sand should be ok.

As long as the terrain allows for slipping. Like not engaging four wheel on black top.

I wouldn't be doing 80 in sand unless my truck was built for it lol I've gotten up to like 50 in sand with no problems but again you wanna keep it in a straight line cause things could bind up

I know, but 80!!! Holy... Not that 80's even that fast...in 4x2...even 4x4 engaged for that matter. But with ur locker engaged...80! That's a big risk. Even the most gradual of turns like what's on a highway have your wheel spinning at different rates. Compound that to the speed of what's similar to mach 3 when ur talkng something like your rear end and something is bound to let go. Being locked in I think is stressfull enough for a driveline. Man, at 80 I think you're playing a game of russian roulette. Good luck on your impending repair....(no dickish undertones intended)
