Ok guys I'm new and I need some help on my 99 taco ! can Anyone tell me whats up with my toy ? It started out when I would accelerate thru shifting like it had a dead spot or would bogg down then pick up. So i tried throttle body cleaner it was better but not fixed now it is doing the same thing and its stalling when I come to a stop when its cold. it idle's rough when its warm but I still have the lack of power going up small hills or even high wind ! Any ideas ?

Thanks Taco TX, I'm going to clean MAF sensor tonight after work. I just did plugs and wires about a year or so ago. so I guess their about due. I would have thought they would have lasted longer than that thow !

i just picked up an 01 tacoma and it kind of has the same issues, rough idle and no power going up hills. check engine light came on so i took it to the dealership but they said they cleaned the MAF. the code they're getting basically says it's running too lean. after cleaning the MAF, the CEL stayed out for a day or so but it's back on now with the same rough idle and low power. taking it back this weekend, i'll let you know what they do.

Thanks Scott ! Ya it would be nice to know right ?! Um... update i cleaned the MAF sensor last night & NO HELP !!! Infact it made it worse 2 where it wouldnt start until i used a lil starting fluid !!! I got worse news once I got it running I noticed a new sound that I believe is coming from the Exhaust manifold ! I think I read a thread on here yesterday somewhere that the cracked exhaust manifolds are common on 1st Gen Taco's ! Gonna Search some more today !

Well I had my tech look at it and he said he didn't have a lot of time to look at it in detail so he asked me 2 bring it back ! He did confirm that my exhaust mainfold was cracked and that something was wrong with the idle. he wanted me to come back for a compression test on friday ! I explained my sittuation with hunts and the timing i was up against ! Even if he did get all the right answers an found a major issue an could have got it fixed i will never know ! Sorry guy's But I got frustraighted and traded it in and bought an 04 Superduty ! It was only a matter of time anyway ! I haul to many toy's a boat, wheelers, & a trailer. Sorry Guys ! I really would like to have kept the truck for running but, I just got tired of working pon it !
