My light comes on every now and then, Auto Zone told me the samething about my O2 sensor throwing a code. Guy told me to run some Premium gas in it, bingo solves my problem everytime it comes on. He also told me its that cheap ass gas (like corner mom & pop, aribian stores) that causes the light to come on, it's a low grade of gas. Now I have been running like BP or Shell regular gas and the engine light has not come on in the last 6 months. I've never cleaned or replace any of my sensors (original ones) and got 200,000 miles.

The CEL not coming on doesn't mean you don't still have a problem. The codes could still be stored in the computer. FWIW, I've never heard of bad gasoline causing a CEL.

Where's the reset button (if there is one) for the check engine light for scheduled maintenance. I just rolled past 140K on my truck and the light came on. I don't think its coincidence that this just happened to occur as the timing chain is due for replacement.

    Any help?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

According to your profile you have a 1995, correct? There is no reset button for this or a maintenance light. Just the check engine (CEL) light. You will have to get the code read and go from there.

unplug the battery...doing so will get rid of the CEL. If it comes back on, then you know you need to check the code (I'd check it first anyway though).

My engine code is P0141 and it is coming from Bank 1 Sensor 2. Is this something that can be easily repaired on your own, or better to take it in to the dealer?

Read up here, I didn't find Tacomaworld before I had this problem...but through the internet I found the problem...the maf sensor was fuzzy with dust, debris. Buy a can of maf, back then it was electrical parts cleaner, remove the maf, spray the hell out of it, I used almost a whole can, it should look like a small coil with a hair of a wire when clean, it will evaporate(the cleaner) on it's own. Put it back in take the neg. of the battery and pull the main fuse. In 5 minutes, replace the fuse, then the battery and start. My 99 3.4 gave me the same code, once I did this it was good to go. Now if the light goes out and your gas mpg still is in the crapper, then "look" into a o2 sensor, either one of them. Kevin and it worked for me.

Yes you can repair this on your own. That is the O2 sensor. It will be right behind the CAT. You can get the OEM replacement at URDUSA.COM.

my CEL has been on for the past couple months and when I unplugged the negative battery terminal to install some off road lights, the light hasn't come on yet, but it's only been a day.

You may have cleared the light, but the code may still be stored in the computer. Don't you want to figure out what's causing the CEL rather than just forgetting about it? Running with a code is always a bad idea because you don't know how serious the problem is.

I do know what the code is for, a cracked exhaust manifold.

So you're going to leave it then because you have no CEL?

No...? Why are you making assumptions?

The mechanics said it's nothing I have to hurry to get done and will drive and run just fine for a long time. I'm getting it fixed when I have 300 bucks saved up or I might just get some headers.

Well, you've mentioned nothing about those things that I asked in your previous postings, that's why I asked. Sheesh....

The only time you can run of the O2 sensor is bad if its the heater. If the O2 sensor portion is bad you will fry you plugs your cat and wash down cyinder walls. No input for O2 means no Hydrocarbons=no fuel . Computer will keep dumping fuel in until it sees voltage. But the voltage will never be produced if sensor is not working. Pretty exspensive fix. Replace the O2.
Yes you had probaly do it. 7/8 Wrench or O2 soket. and possibly a torch. Use more anti sieze on the way in and do not put any electric gel on the connector, they are suppose to be dry.
