So I got this rear bumper to replace my stock 2001 rear bumper for $50. This thing is SOLID and heavy. I'm sanding it down today, but can't decide if I want to rattle can it black or Herculiner it. What would you do?

looks to me like its in rough shape and it might be a ton of work to sand it down to a smooth paint-able surface.. I would Herculine it.

also it appears that the bumper is using OEM bumper brackets, they are not all that strong and might need reinforcing to really support that beast. I know that mine twisted into an "S" with just a little 'bump' into a cement wall lol

I'm picking up Herculiner today. Would something like this help with reinforcement?

I would ise dupli color bed armor since it has UV protectant in it. Or herculiner then paint over it to seal it. I have had good luck with rustoleum bed liner which os like a textured paint. It has held up great on the aluminum floor of my boat.

    Look at build!
Id just rattle can it, will be getting touched up down the road anyway, or the Bedliner in a can stuff.. & if possible id cut those brackets off and make some new ones or try to reinforce those somehow

Do you think those reinforcement plates I posted above will do the job?

those are frame reinforcement plates. I was implying that maybe the bumper bracket itself needed to be beefed up. as 01Tac0ma said maybe see if you can remove the existing brackets and use them a template to fab up your own brackets out of 3/16" steel

Oh okay. That doesn't seem like it'd be too difficult. I'll definitely do that.

Id go at least 1/4 on mounting brackets and gusset them inside the bumper.. You dont really need those stock ones to mock a new one up, pretty simple once you get under there and look at it.. Id try to do 3/8 if possible though
