Camshaft sheared the key help please

    Hi all,, well truck broke down again, first it was trans, had it rebuilt everything was good, Sister has truck in NC from OK, when she got there she lost power steering was able to get to where she was going, after she opened up the hood the belt was missing and the pulley was just laying there aff the truck she had some friends look at it her sons freinds they are all Marines, he is saying the key that holds the pully on is sheared off and the camshaft part that sticks out is ground down. do we need a new camshaft or is it two differance parts sorry don't know how to explain it. any thought, she is stuck there now. Help

    Hard to say without pics, if its just a sheared key thats not too bad to deal with, not even sure if thats how they're afixed, but really need some pics to help much..

    Since when does the ps belt have anything to do with the camshaft? Sure they aren't talking about the ps pump shaft?

    x2. And if they've confused the PS pump shaft with the cam shaft, I wouldn't let them go anywhere near that truck with a wrench!

    No way, the timing belt is on the crank so the truck would not run with that pulley missing.

    Timing belt runs off crankshaft gear, power steering runs off crankshaft pulley.

    Ah yes thank you. But still, the alternator is run off that same pulley. The battery would go dead in a hurry.

    am back all ,,, had to take a nap, just going off what is being told to me, will get pics and get them posted tks so far for the comments, i do know the engine runs fine and power steering doen't not work and belt came off with pulley

    can't getts pics tonight weather been stopping cell phone traffic she will try again in the morning looks like power steer pump went bad or cam shaft vibration damper...whatever that means

    Update she is getting it looked at, should know something today. it is hard trying to get info on the board not having the vehicle in front of me, my sister does not know alot about engins and stuff like that and was freaking out little, see she has not had her own vehicle for about 5 years untill i got this one for her.
