Tacoma 4x4 non trd swap trd elocking axle

Is this possible? or is it to much work? i have a rolled 2004 tacoma prerunner and im buying a 97 4x4 and im wondering if i can take my old axle and swap it. how hard is this? i know there is alot of wiring to do but are there ways around it?

 

idk bout 4x4 been reading up on the 2WD swap though since my base will be getting the rear axle from a O/R with E-locker in a few weeks.

Yes you can swap your axle, it's a pretty common mod. Like you said, you need to swap the whole axle, drum to drum, and take all the associated locker wiring with it.

Definetly make sure it's the same ratio if 4wd

 

Check the axle code of the 4x4.
If its B03A, then it has 4.10 gears.

yea i figured that how much do 410s run for the front?

 

~$600, but if you plan on lifting/running 33's or 35's i'd get new rear gears and front gears that will handle the 33's or 35's better than stock.

I have 265 75 16 mtrs on it and i dont think ill go much bigger than that maybe 285s because it such a pain to get those not to rub... i have a 2.5 inch lift with the bilstiens in front and i have 5100s in the rear idk how high that lifted the rear.. all i want is a locked truck maybe get a locked front diff also.. throw me some suggestions

 

The 5100's don't lift in the back, you'd need a AAL, shackle, or block to get lift in the rear.
I was told that a locker in the front shouldn't be a priority as you'll utilize armor (skids, sliders, Front and rear bumpers) before a locker.

But my opinion is that if you're regearing now, it'll be cheaper in the long run to go ahead and do a locker now, you'll have it if you need it, and someday you'll need/want it.
