Hello all. I am very new to this site and to the Tacoma as well. I have read many pages about the tailgate mods (pop&lock, hose clamp, washer). My question is...... do some of the 1st generation tacomas (2003) have a bolted on tailgate that won't allow the hose clamp mod? This is the 1st mod I would be doing and I can't see where I would put a hose clamp on mine. I will probably still do the Pop&lock, but would have done both if possible. Thanks in advance.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
On my first gen '97 I put in a Pop-n-Lock. Took about 15 minutes. Just leave it locked all the time and no worries.

I DID go look at mine to do the hose clamp mod just because, and the tailgate is on permanently - no hose clamp needed.

The hose clamp mod is only for the 2nd gen tacomas. The only thing it does - or prevents - is someone from stealing the entire tailgate. It does not prevent someone from opening the tailgate.

The Pop-n-Lock locks the tail gate and prevents someone from opening the tailgate.

Which....in a sense, could also prevent tailgate theft.

I have the Pop & Lock and its the best $30 bucks I've spent on the truck. Of course anything can be stolen with any kind of lock if the thief wants it bad enough, but most thieves will just pass up your truck if it has a lock because it takes time to get through them. Most would rather just steal the tail gate on the truck parked right next to yours without a lock.
