I have some in my build thread.
I could do a storage mod thread if any of you want to see exactly how I made it.

I know that this is for 1st Gens, but I have a 2nd gen DCSB with a manual, so if you can't find it that way in a 1st gen, you do have an option. I did have to search a long while for it though.

I'm starting to think about swapping a double cab onto my '96 despite Blackdawg's efforts to get me to just buy one...

This is a 1st gen thread and 1st gen double cabs did not come with a manual transmission

I think there are a handful out there, but I don't believe they came from the factory as a double cab long bed. I've only seen pictures of two 1st gen double cab long beds.

Lately guys I have been considering getting rid of my double cab for an ext cab cause I never carry passengers beside my girlfriend and extra bed space would be so we could actually sleep in the back when we go camping. Also I really miss having a manual trans.

Do you guys think it wouldn't be a smart move to trade my double cab for an ext cab manual?

I haven't read the entire thread but has anyone put an extra cab bed in place of the DC bed? The short box on my DC is my only complaint.

I have an 02 double cab and love it except for the bed. Groceries, dogs, guns, and people for the back seat. I can't drive manual so that don't bother me.

Edit: never mind. Just read page 2

Ya that's the one down fall of my double cab. I want to have a camper with a sleeping platform and your really can't do that with the double cab bed.

Homebrew bumpers and sliders, 5100s & Eibachs up front and mutt leaf pack out back, 285s & Wheelers type B, sway bar deleted. Wife's ride: 01 4Runner 4wd sport. Stock with exception of TRD taco coils, and shift kit.
This is tempting.... If it's 4wd shoot me some pics and specs if you want but just be warned it'll be a tough sell. As much as I'd like a DC I'm really attached to what I currently have.

I have a wife and 4 kids and drive an XtraCab.

I originally had a double cab F-150 which could hold the entire family. However, we (the entire family) only rode in my truck a handful of times. 90% of the time, I drove the truck alone. 9% of the time, I had only 1 person with me and the other 1% had less than 3 people with me.

Double cabs are nice when you need them but at least for me, I almost never had the need for it. I'll take my XtraCab and longer bed any day.

The DC is best for me. I don't have a big family, or wanna sleep in my truck bed often; but having the xtra people/DOG space in the back seat and still having a decent bed space has proven invaluable. If I need to haul longer things I can pass it through the cab or throw it on the roof, and if need be I just just take off the cap quick to move something larger. The extra weight takes a lil toll on the mpg, but IMO its worth it.

Late to the party, but I'll toss in my not-exactly-unique thoughts...

    1. It ALL boils down to whether you want your extra space in the cab/seats, or in the bed. For 1st gen, you can't have both.

    2. For me, the Xtracab was the only way to roll, as it's the perfectly-balanced truck. Singlecab looks too tiny/severe and is too impractical, while the DC is out-of-whack re: proportions, with the cab being longer than the bed, visually. That short bed just doesn't work for me. Xtracab gives you the best of both worlds -- the extra space in the cab to toss gym bags, laptop cases, and all sorts of other stuff behind the front seats, and can *technically* carry 2 more people someplace, albeit in tight fashion. On top of that you get the 6' bed with the 7' diagonal which is just so damn useful. For me, this was not just a consideration or optional -- Xtracabs only. :-D

As others have pointed out though, it all comes back to Item 1. I'm single with no kids, so I have no need to haul lots of people around -- at most I have one other person in the front passenger seat. Meanwhile, I've hauled all sorts of stuff in that 6' bed re: house projects, appliances, mulch/sod, etc.
