Some lift, some armor, some scratches..
what type of use/surfaces do your tires generally see? Are you a mall crawler, wknd offroader, or hardcore rock crawler?

I run a set of Treadwright Wardens on load "D" BFG AT casings. I drive 90% on pavement but have put these tires to the test many times w/ jagged rocks, sticks, ledges etc and the sidewalls were more than stout enough to take it. They air down well and can handle a full load of firewood or a pallet of tile any day. That said, they are heavy as hell (53lbs! ea) and "E" tires would be even worse. I'm sure that a "C" or "P" rated tire would suffice but I wanted a little more confidence as ventured offroad.

I think the consensus is that for how light our trucks are, and w/ our limited payload/towing capacity load range "E" tires are overkill.

Mostly commuting back and forth to work, and the occasional recreation off-roading. I agree, Es are overkill. I'd much prefer a D load range. But I've been looking around for tires, and just want an abundance to choose from. The more sizes and load ranges I take out of the equation, the less choices I have to choose from. Thanks for the reply.

i run e rated, the added resistance to punctures is worth the bit of extra weight and the rougher ride as some consider it. my last cheapo goodyears rode ok, my newer dick cepeks ride great.

    I'm running E BFG A/T KO's, i'd rather have a heavier duty tire and lose a MPG or 2.

I run E rated. I don't see it as overkill. When I am off road in the middle of nowhere I like that I have a stronger ture.

Same here. BFG AT/KO's. They ride hard, but I don't really care. When I go to 235/85/16's next year, I'm sure I'll still be in an E rated tire - most in that size are E rated. They're overkill, for sure, on a little truck.

Correct me if I'm wrong - the E rating mainly means the sidewall is going to be thicker and stiffer, right? Thus the harsher ride?

E rated cooper Discoverers. I've had them in some sharp rocks that I did not intend to be in and they held up just fine. I like them a lot :notsure: When I upgrade I'll probably stick with E rated.

I run E rated tires. I like them the only issue I've had is airing down.

I run them on all my trucks. The Tundra and 4Runner because I have to be able to tow a fully loaded two-horse trailer. The Taco has E rated DuraTracs in 235/85/16. I like I can run around at 45 PSI to get a bump in mileage. Running the skinnier tire reduces the weight of the E tires a bit.

I have had no trouble airing down to 12 ~ 15 PSI on either the Taco or the 4Runner. That's usually plenty low for the stuff I do.

The DuraTracs construction was changed last year and they weigh significantly less than the older construction. They replaced some of the steel with kevlar I believe. It resulted in a slightly lower cost as well.

OK IMO from what ive seen... the dura tracs are a good tire (compared to others) however i think its worth it to buy the ToYO open country mud terrains instead. they are just a stronger tire, last longer according to TWO different les schwabbs, do wayyy better in the MUD/SNOW, same amount of road noise. however they are a heavier tire, but i mean cmon... if your offroading.. does the weight of the tire matter THAT much to where it blances out all the pros? what yall think?
