Intermittent Dim Airbag Light?

Hi All,

I just bought a 96 2WD Tacoma two weeks ago and am in the process of cleaning it up (the previous owners were absolute pigs). Anyway, the airbag light is acting very strangely. Usually when I start the truck, the airbag light will come on for a few seconds then go out like it should. Every once in a while, though, it will come on dimly and get a little brighter but not to full intensity. It's probably about 1/2 intensity and stays on after I start the truck. I've also had it come on full brightness at startup and not go off, which it did tonight. Then it went away after I shutdown and restarted.

When I got home, I hooked up the code scanner and was unable to retrieve any stored or pending codes. My first suspect is the spiral cable, which I'm ok with even as expensive as they are, but the lack of codes and dim, very intermittent airbag light concerns me. I've never seen a trouble light come on dimly like this one does. Any ideas?

Mine just started doing it. I'll post the fix once I figure out what is causing it.

 

Hey guys, for all of you out there. I found the problem to the issue above. It's the SRS Airbag Control Module. I decided to repair it myself since they are very expensive. I'll post some pictures once I receive the part I need to fully repair it.

 

Fyi a normal scan tool will not read SRS system codes
