Flashlight, Leatherman, basic wrench/socket set, road flares, tow strap/clevice, water, jumper cables, ratchet straps. If I'm going to be out in the desert I'll have my AR as well. So far I've been walking distance from the highway - the list needs to be revised for future travels...

 

A chainsaw is a must to have here in the northwest if your out in the woods.
