Hi. I have a 2.7 4x4 regular cab Tacoma. The cab heater is no longer producing heat. The fan works. Also, the knob to change the temperature moves all the way to the right (hot) but does not move all the way to the left (cold). It stops in the middle of the blue. Any thoughts on how to fix? Thanks and appreciated.

the water flow regulator is probably rusted/clogged, it is actuated by your twist/slide knob and via a cable....follow the cable, it will take you to the part that needs replacing...

The blend door may also be blocked. Stuff falling through the vent on the dash can block it and keep it from working properly

The end of the cable housing up by the lever may have came undone. It happened to both of my 96 Tacos. I reinstalled and assisted the holding fixture with a zip tie.

Cable has not come undone. I will have to check to see if something has clogged it. Can someone remind how to remove that part of the console. Forgot. It has been awhile.

    Thanks for input.

Also, the tubes going into the firewall are warm. Could it be a clog or the water flow regulator? I am assuming it would not be because the tubes are warm.

Then I would check to see if something is not allowing that blend door to open

Are the heater hoses the same temp on each side of the water flow regulator?

Just removed the center part (with the two side by side vents) on my 96 yesterday.

Take off all knobs from climate controls (4). Remove climate control faceplate by gently prying at right most edge with screwdriver or hook. Remove faceplate and ac switch, which should come straight out. Remove two screws under climate control faceplate (right one is straight in, left is at an upward angle). Pull from top disconnecting hazard switch once the panel is free. Extend cup holder and remove by tilting top down until out.

I would probably start by checking the heater control valve to make sure it is operating freely. I thought I saw mine in the engine compartment but I could be confusing this with my 87 Hilux.

Unless I'm mistaken, the blend door only regulates where the air comes out, not the amount of coolant entering the heater core. It shouldn't have an effect on the temperature, only which vents the heat is output from.

The cable will stay attached. It is the cable housing that may have came undone. The end of the cable housing has a shallow groove cut all the way around it. This groove isn't really deep enough to hold the cable end after just a little wear.

When i move the knob on the console...the cable moves the arm on the regulator. That arm moves from 4.30 to 7.30. If we are talking about the housing that goes from the firewall to the regulator arm...still there and looks good.

Took apart the panel and stuck my hand in and followed the cable that goes to the right. I had to pull that cable with minor force to get it to move all the way to the coldest setting. The knob was able to move and got some heat going into the cab. Cant move the knob back to cold, because it will get stuck again and no heat. Hoping this will work for a little while. Thanks for all the help again.

Are both of your heater hoses the same temp going in and out of you heater core? If not your heater core is plugged or possibly air locked .

It still sounds like one end of the cable housing is loose.

I have same problem and have checked everything
My water valve on fire wall works
Ran water through heater core with garden hose normal and backwards flush
    Changed thermostat
    It does not over heat
I took glove box out and part of center dash and all levers seem to work and I can see the blend and here it slam open and close
    Could it be water pump
