So I think I'm gonna find a way to have the parking lights double as turn signals, so then I could just have one bulb.... and if it works I'm going to wire my amber halos to them also :D

They're called switchback LEDs. They have both amber and white LEDS on one tower. Every one I've seen on Tacomas has a delay when switching between the two... So I've strayed away from them.

Maybe he means one bulb, but the running light is always on and the blinker flashes when needed. The switchback only does one or the other.

One ground and two contacts is all you need. As long as it's a dual filament bulb anyways.

Not trying to hijack, just showing how I did mine a couple of months ago when I installed my tube bumper...

I just cut the socket off the old signal housings with a hacksaw. Takes about 30 seconds per socket....

Then I figured out where they'd fit into the marker housings...

This looks like a good spot...

My drill press already had a 3/4" Holesaw bit chucked up, so I just used that to make a hole. Then I put a burr in a hand drill and opened it up until the 3157 bulb would fit into the hole...

I blew the shavings out of the housings with a quick blast or air, then test fit the socket & bulb for clearance...

Mixed up some JB Weld and smeared that shit on there...

Let them sit overnight, the next morning I popped them back in, and that was it. The whole process took about 30 minutes with a hacksaw, holesaw, burr, & compressor. The cut wire pigtail you see is from when the truck was in an accident and the wires were damaged. Anyway, I used the JB Weld because it was in the toolbox and I didn't feel like going to the store for some fast setting epoxy. If I used something like that it would have been done in 45 minutes to an hour. I took a few smoke breaks too.

Just finished this mod on my 2001 Prerunner, I was hesitant to do it until I saw some pics of it done on an 01-04. Very easy, only issue I ran into was cutting the hole for the driver side housing in the wrong spot...

You can see the housing sticks out a bit past the edge of the light

The epoxy is drying now but I'm planning on just chopping off one of the lower tabs and it should fit.

Much happier with my second try at the passenger side

I'll update once I reinstall them and make sure everything fits.

Very helpful write-up PcBuilder, thanks!

    Brent,
you were able to stretch the blinker wires from down below the bumper to where the side lights are without cutting or splicing anything? That seems easier if its doable.

Brent and I were discussing this earlier. The stock blinker bulb and socket are dual filament/dual contact. The female plugs (part #90980-11020) are 3 lead as well. (can see in the below picture, 3rd lead is the little plastic nub)

I'm ordering a few to see what needs to be done to insert a 2nd hot lead and plan on doing the blinker relocate mod with them. One thing I am unsure about is the heat dissipation compared to the stock running light bulb. Have to do some research to see which filament closely matches the wattage of the running light bulb and hope it doesn't melt the cover.

Yup, just had to cut one plastic tab that's between the blinker housing and the running light housing. Then I was able to just run the wiring up to the top.
