Debating if i should paint my rims black or leave them chrome...
the rims are already peeling around the hub cap area so i wanted to paint them a gloss black.
Does spray paint hold up well?
How long will my paint job last?

    Pictures help alot. thanks

That depend on how you drive.. mud will keep making them peal... plus chrome is a hard finish

I would use a etching primer the something simple like rustolium spray cans so you can do touch ups.

black > chrome any day in my opinion.. even if the black peels just retouch up.. how long it lasts depends a lot on how you use your truck. but i would do it if i were you. and what 604yota said use self etching primer & give your rims a light sanding get all that loose stuff off..

Painting over chrome can be tricky. You'll definitely want to do a good sanding of the chrome before you paint them so the new paint has something to stick to. Otherwise the new paint will just flake off the chrome.

    Sand the wheels
Spray 2 coats self etching primer
    spray 2-3 coats of black
spray 4-5 coats of clear coat if you want them glossy.

Be careful when sanding the chrome, you dont want to breathe that stuff. I would get a couple cans of plasti dip and paint right over the chrome. If you get sick of it, you can peel it right off.

One bad thing about the plasti-dip is if you wheel in the mud it will stick to the plasti-dip and doesn't wash off very easily even with a power washer so you'll end up peeling the plasti-dip off and respraying it.

But if you're truck is a street queen then plasti-dip away.

No. but paint has a hard time sticking to Chrome. Just hit it with a scotchbrite pad and make sure you scuff up all of the surfaces. Then use a good quality primer. I had good luck using the Rustoleum Rusty Metal (red) primer on the chrome wheel I use for my spare.
