I need to do the Lower(driver and passenger) ball joints on my truck.

I would like to use MOOG

    its a 04 4x4

Anyone have the part numbers for moog or a list of the parts necessary for this? and any idea where prices wouldn't be too high, aka Amazon...?

    Thanks!

    Happy Holidays!

OEM is best for ball joints is what most recommend here.

the only part you need is the lower balljoint.
super simple, unbolt 4 bolts from bottom of spindle, unbolt nut that holds the bj shaft into the Lower control arm, unbolt steering arm, beat old one out of lower control arm. replace, with using locktite, trust me use it man. mine got loose and broke on me, after replacing them.

oem or moog are the best. i got moog on my truck now.

Go to camelback Toyota, and buy OEM there. Free shipping over 150 too.

I had Moog upper/lowers, and they've worn out/gotten shitty, in less than 20K miles...

What are symptoms of bad ball joints?

Jack up the front of your truck till front tires off the ground. Grab tire at 3 and 9 o clock and wiggle back and forth. If there is play or a "clunk" then your LBJ is shot. You can do the same for wheel bearings by checking at 12 and 6. Either way if you have play, you should change them. Go OEM!

If you grab a 3 and 9 you are checking the tie rod ends. 12 and 6 does the wheel bearing and/or ball joint. The way I checked my ball joints on my 96 4runner was to put a pry bar between the spindle and lower control arm and try to pry them apart, if there is any movement up/down the ball joint is bad. I'm glad I did this too when I bought it because 1 was pretty close to popping out of the joint.

Yea, I was basically saying if it moves in either one of those directions (left and right) it's either your LBJ or tie rod end. Wheel bearings are pretty self explanatory. There are many ways to check LBJ's

So to install them myself i don't need a press or anything? its not difficult then? because i really could and would like to save the money

The lowers you shouldn't need a press just a tie rod separator that doesn't tear the boot, the uppers you will, but you can rent it from autozone

the ball joint unit just unbolts (4bolts) and the tie rod take the nut and give taps with a hammer to break it loose, remember the idea here is to cause vibration not to demolish stuff.

And cool let me know when you have them off and we can figure out how i get them thanks.

I saw that video before it was posted. Its very good. I will be following those directions. Now do i have to torque to those set points? and also i think I'm going with OEM tacoma any other recommendations?
