i have a 1998 toyota tacoma 3.4 v6 and keep chasing a cal 1 misfire. i have replaced all the plugs with toyota recommended plugs. I have changed plug wires and coils. I scanned the code and showed as cylinder 1 misfire and swapped coils and still says cylinder 1 misfire. I don't feel it misfiring when i drive. Sometimes the check engine light comes on and sometimes it won't.

How does the cyl. 1 plug look after driving it? Could be a fuel injector issue or, I hate to mention it, but a headgasket leak into that cyl. could also cause a misfire. Have you been adding coolant recently?

That's good that your not losing coolant. I use a noid light to check for injector pulse. Your at the right place to diagnose and repair your taco, have you used the search bar to read previous threads about misfires?

Sense you have already changed the plug wires, try changeling the plug with a new one (checking plug gap).
If you still have the problem try changeling that plug wire with one of the others and see if the problem move to that cylinder.

I am going to look into injectors tomorrow. I will try a coil swap one more time. Then check the plug and see how it looks. And swap an injector from 1 to 3.

That's an intelligent move at this point. Please reply as to weather it fix's the problem or it gives more information.

Oh, if you have an oxygen sensor in the incoming air supply, clean it first thing! Those dam things have been known to cause lots of weird "STUFF". Don't ask me how I know. Use a good electronics cleaner ONLY, like CRC brand.

We are on the same page Changeling. i already cleaned it with MAF sensor cleaner. Ordered new o rings for the other injectors and one new injector for cal 1. My mechanic started my truck and unplugged the fuel injector for cl 1 and it still ran the exact same. I took plug on and it was hot but not wet at all. I am strongly leaning towards an injector

I would second the fuel injector. Had a customer come in with a 99 3.4 and had the identical problem as you. Turned out to be a bad injector. Let us know the final outcome.

Is your truck still running better? I am having the exact same issue with my truck, so I'm curious if this ended up being a permanent fix for you after driving it for a month.
