Thanks, I got it. Watched before too. The tool is simply too tight, and is partially at fault for this. When I tapped the tool to seat. It dropped down partially behind the hole and a little nudge knocked it in.

Still I should have known better and more adequately blocked the hole.

 

I don't think the tool is at fault.... with that said, I probably would have lost it in the diff too.

 

I've done 4 of these installs, and 3 of the trucks I had no problem with the tool at all. The last one I did, I did have to chamfer a little material off of it to get it to slide right in.

First time I did it, I almost did this, but fortunately had it magnetized so it would stick in place. Used something like this http://www.sears.com/century-drill-...10725523810?prdNo=21&blockNo=71&blockType=G71

 

Magnetizing is a great idea! I'm going to do this. How did you chamfer the piece? Hit with a grinder on the far side? Where the little notches are?

 

I used a dremel to chamfer it, but anything from a grinder to a file will do the trick. I put the piece in to the diff and took note of what was holding it up from easily sliding in. I pretty much just chamfered the front side outer edges and it slid right in no problem.

This, Dremel with grinding bit. Had to take quite a bit off. Just go slow and steady.

 

If the tool was manufactured to the right size, a small tap would have done the trick to seat. That is how it looks in the video of install.

Edit:

Even after grinding down I STILL had to beat it in pretty good.

 

Everything works, no more vibes.
