I've had the frame coated and the Spare Tire recall completed by Toyota. Today the strap holding the skid plate and gas tank to the frame rusted through. Tank dropped about two inches. Glad I wasn't off road with the kids or in another more precarious situation. Anyways ratchet strapped the tank to the crossmember and limped home. I'm identifying the best approach to correct the situation. Should I contact Toyota regional and the local dealer (Handy Toyota/a good guy), or just the dealer.

contact toyota corporate, and a dealership and see what they can do.

if it all comes down to it, you could maybe price your cost of the parts online through a vendor, maybe camelback toyota or the like.

also, check with a shop. being somewhere with rust id imagine its not a new thing for toyota shops to deal with.

If you do it yourself, be sure to order all the parts that are assoc with the strap: rubber cushion, pins, clips and bolts.

I did mine recently and it was easy with the bed off. It has the potential to be a PITA job with the bed on but certainly doable.
