Looks like a nice setup, and I'd go with the add-a-leaf over shackles and the full leaf pack over the add-a-leaf.

I've had no personal experience with Toytec so I'd wait for someone else to chime in with a first-hand recommendation.

What's your timeframe on this?

I would have went this route if I had not already installed the 5100 Bilsteins and rear AAL. I will add that Toytec is a good company, good customer service. See if you can talk to Doug if you have questions.

shackles can cause premature leaf wear...as in...they can dearch your springs pretty quick

Thats a great setup! I got the Toytec coilovers and AAL. Love the coilovers! they ride great. And Im waiting to wear out my Rancho shocks in the rear so I can the Bilstein's. I think you'll enjoy it!

if from L.A., your best bet is to meet up with those of us in the area who wheel in the terrain you are likely wheeling in...

even for mild wheeling in the so cal desert, you will want to invest in something a bit higher end than the budget stuff...

whereabouts are you wheeling at?

i am up in the Glendale area and i hit mostly Lucerne, Barstow, and the Mojave...

you are more than welcome to roll with our crew sometime out there... we just went out for the M.O.R.E. Balls Out 250 this past Saturday and we are planning to do the Mojave Road run from Barstow/Calico to Stateline in the dirt this coming weekend... that will be a 2 day trip...

our next day trip will be Saturday 4/4 for the MDR race in Barstow...

here is the suspension on my truck...

Nice, thanks for the offer. I'd love to go out after I do a few things to my truck. I've only taken my truck out once before over in Cal City. I usually just have my dirt bike or quad on the back and just park the truck, but thought it'd be fun to take the truck for a spin and boy was it a blast. I'm hooked!

You're right though. I'm thinking I've gotta put more money into this now, so I'm looking at some mid-long travel kits. Specifically Camburg and Total Chaos.

Thoughts?

between the two, the boxed lowers of the camburg kit are pimp...

there is a more affordable alternative that is comparable in quality and strength...

the Engage kit is based off an actual tacoma race truck in the 1450 class... with King coilovers, the whole front end is $3,200 vs. the Camburg kit which is at $2,800 without shocks...

just something to consider, given today's economy...

we will be at the April 4 MDR race in Barstow if you would like to see the kit up close and in action...

I got a first gen and this is what I am going to do for a lift

both the leaf springs and the coilovers are going to be order from donwey offroad

the 3.5inch lift leafs are about $240 for a pair

the 3.5inch lift adjustable coilovers are about $760 a pair

I also got a set of Firestone M/T 31X10.50 15 if you want to go bigger then 31inch tires you will have to get a rim with at least 1inch more offset then the stock or you will have rubbing issues

Ok, so I think I'm going to go with long travel in the front. Question though...I want to do something mild in the rear, suggestions?

I was just thinking about possibly AAL and some 5125 Bilsteins?

the AAL and 5125s will have trouble keeping up with the front end... with a smooth front and rough rear, your lower back is going to hate you...

while you may want to go mild now, once you get out there, you will progressively finding yourself getting more aggressive...

at the very least, you want to get into a full leaf pack...

Deaver 8s are a standard starting point, and they cost about $600...

there is another alternative that is a bit cheaper in cost and has a limited warranty...

you will have to PM me though as i aint blasting all my hookups... hehehe...

Extremely true. I changed the direction of my build after just 1 day of real-world testing. If you're even considering long-travel, do it right the first time and save yourself the money and downtime in the future.
