    Hey Folks:

I'm looking at buying this '83 pickup. has 56K original miles. Nominal rust.

As it sits, it has a 3" suspension lift + 3" body lift.
    Dick Cepek 35's
    Regeared
Painted color you see over its original red.

I would be 4th owner. This fellow has used it as a pavement queen since he bought it 4 yrs ago. Before that it sat in a barn last registration before 2009 was 1996.

    So...
My plan would be to ditch the body lift, regear to original or thereabouts so skinny 33's would be manageable on all but highways and drive this thing until it (or I) dies.

It would see time on back roads and forestry roads/washouts but no beating on it rock crawlin'

What is a reasonable price? He was looking to get 10K originally but he's realizing that price is too high, at least in this area.

    Here she is:

I just sold a 1983 toyota 4x4 sr5 long bed, stock original paint, real clean truck for $6000. Looks like a clean truck, is it an sr5 package? A/c? Power steering? I personally would only pay in the 5 to 6 range. Big lift and tires do not appeal to me, good luck.

Wow that thing looks like it is in great condition. ..I would ditch the body lift and add another 3" keep the 35s and off-road the shit out of it..

I saw one in about same condition up here was went for about 8grand canadian...so I'd try maybe 7us

Yeah, the plan would be to get rid of the body lift and the wheel/tire combo and install skinny 33's.

No plans to trash it with hard wheeling.

    Bump:

Anyone else have insight into the prices on these. There are very few out there that I can find for sale that haven't been trashed on the trails.

These yotas are good investments if you buy it at the right price. Restoring it to stock will gain more value. But $10k range is pretty high for a weekend warrior.

For me, I bought my 87 with a solid front axel already swapped in. I still want to spend money to replace bearings and others wear items to keep it reliable.

I was going to offer 8000.00. it only has 56K miles and aside from the lift and the fact he painted it (decent paint job), it is stock.

    Really clean beneath

Stumpman, how many miles on the rig you sold? That looks really clean!

What you gonna have in it when it is like you want it, not trying to talk you out of it. Remember it is an old truck, drives like one, thought I would keep mine forever also, that lasted 9 months, I bought in at a good price and made a little, if for whatever reason you decide to sell after getting it where you want it, just be prepared to sell in the 6 to 7 range, believe me when I say I searched and traveled for a year to find mine, pristine showroom low mileage stock originals only bid to the 10 range on ebay, I know you want it bad and probably a good truck but my opinion is that is too much, good luck, 187 k on the clock

Return the gearing to stock or therabouts and then the cost of 5 steelies from ebay and 5 Duratracs will pretty much take care of it. Cant put a price on my time as that's priceless... :p

You said repaint and I see snow. I would take a magnet around the bottom of the fenders and the door jams to make sure there isnt any bondo filling rust holes

I crawled all through this truck and it is the real deal. Its unfortunate he painted it (used to be red) but whoever did it did a decent job. You can tell the low miles are real; pedals have very little wear, interior is all original except door speakers, and in excellent shape. The seats are original and not a crack or a stain on 'em.

I offered $8k and he wants something more to sweeten the deal so at this point its a no-go.

I think 8K is more than fair but he's of a mindset that he needs to get out of it what he put in parts and such (wheels/tires, lift, paint) and I plan to toss the wheels/tire/lift so that's worth nothing to me. I know where he is coming from but that doesn't mean I'm going to support it :D.

edit: I would also remove the handles on the cab and the windshield visor which means bodywork/paint to repair the holes.

wow. thats literally the cleanest and best looking pre tacoma I've ever seen. i could see why he would want 10k for it but i doubt its worth that.. even with 56k miles. just sitting is not the best for the engine either..

Yeah, that's the common fantasy - I wish people would get over it. All those modifications do nothing for resale. Especially lifts and tires - just screams abuse.
