I made my own out of an LED strip and a momentary switch, and I wired it to the cigarette outlet since that is all I could figure out

had my son check the glove box today as we were driving and he found it. So 2002 DC have them, no I have to get it working. For the record, from day 1, and I bought the truck brand new, this light has never been on

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
    Fixed mine this morning too.

    1. Picked up LED positive from a positive I had run already.
    2. Wired the negative to the negative on the clock harness. - goes to the pin switch body
    3. Wired the negative from the pin switch plunger to the LED negative

This way the light is only on when the glove box is open and the pin switch is active. It's also hot all the time so it will work whenever. Easy peasy, just a little time involved.

(This pic is off 90*, no idea why.)

Received my V-LEDS replacement bulbs today. Installation was quick and easy, in both the glove box and ash tray. Though not as dazzling as the LED strips, they're a nice upgrade from stock bulbs and they're a lot simpler to install.

I got a couple of extra pair I don't really need. Drop me a PM if you're interested in a pair for $5 (shipped). (They're $7/pr, shipped, from V-LEDS.)

    Old thread I know...

Just found out I too have the glovebox and ashtray lights. Ashtray light works, still original bulb, not very bright. But, I don’t care since I don’t smoke and hardly ever open it. Had to change glovebox bulb though I just went with the incandescent bulbs; I may switch to LED’s in the future.

Got the glovebox bulbs from Autozone if anyone plans on staying with incandescent bulbs.

Didn’t have to disassemble anything. Wear some disposable rubber gloves for grip and you can easily pull the bulb out with your fingertips.

Attempted to put a 74 LED light from superbrightleds.com in glovebox today. Wouldn't snap in. Original bulb fits in fine but it was dead before I bought the truck.

This is all I have. Very straight forward DIY. The strip just stick in there with double sided tape. I just connected the wires to the stock bulb socket (you can see the little round grill where the stock bulb is). I would suggest adding a pin switch since mine was always on when the headlights are on. See post #44 above for similar install.

Where is the bulb located? I can’t seem to find it in my 2009 TRDOR.

Yea i was wondering about that stupid bulb.. why would they not put in a plunger switch from factory? Seems dumb they just figured it should stay on the whole time the headlights are on and no wonder they always burn out.. then again its the same type bulb as the cluster lights and they dont burn out all the time.. odd..

I put a red LED in my 2003 DC's glovebox light. Works perfectly (with the polarity aligned correctly) and it's quite convenient. I wish my 2015 had something similar.

Note that the bulb is unswitched. It's always on with the other lights. That's likely why so many are burned out, surprising owners that there's a light there at all. That's one of the reasons I went LED for this one, when the rest of my instrument panel is still incandescent. (Two thirds of the IP’s were also burned out when I got this truck in 2007, but I replaced all of those with original style bulbs.)

It's kind of fussy to get the cover open and the bulb pulled out. But it's worth it.

Here's what it looks like on the roof of the open glovebox. If you look carefully, you can see the grille cover latch on the back side of the housing (deeper into the glovebox) and the living hinge in the plastic on the front side (closer to the open side). Fiddling with this grille cover will open it for access to the bulb.

Here's what the light housing looks like on top, with the glovebox roof dropped to show how it's connected.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Nothing important is in there even if I could get it open.

Always to many tools on the right floor!
