2004 tacoma 4WD v-6 auto. it used to balk at going into 4wd but now it refuses no matter how long i play with it. it has a 4wd button on the side of the transfer case shifter. it does not engage regardless of being in 4H or 4L. there is no problem disengaging it. it seems to engage better when the truck has not been driven more than a few miles.

any suggestions for the cause of this?

    thanks,
