    Yep

& Yep... Pretty sure this is a bit of a weak link with 1st gens. you want to use some loctite or similiar & snug those bolts down evenly...

    Yeah, no kidding.
When folks say grade 8 with respect to metric fasteners I usually assume they are just loosely referring to grade 8.8, roughly equivalent US grade 5, not acceptable for LBJs.

I will add these two items for folks to consider.
A blob of thick paint or something, I use JB Weld epoxy, allows the ability to check these bolts for loosening "at a glance". This does not secure the bolt in any way, it's just a "tell tail".
    JBSCREW_zps1a461921_c602db57af1d26dcc4fc88465d2a4f98f6b3a898.jpg

Then there is the issue of the wrong fasteners being included with the joint. I received OEM joints like this twice, a year part. The one on the left is what they should be. The short one on the right (what came in the package) will not even fully penetrate the inboard (shallow) holes in the spindle.

Definitely a screw up, roughly 10 years ago. Never heard of it happening to anyone else but like I said it was on 2 occasions. Maybe just my luck.:(
I just used off the shelf grade 10.9, M10-1.25P-30mm flange head bolts from the local hardware store, as jberry813 mentioned, same as factory. These days I keep them "in stock" in the misc fastener bin.

100% fixed mechanic kept saying its my oversized tires... went from 31s to 32s lol and nothing happened to the driver side so i stopped arguing with him. brand new fender. but no fender flare because toyota wanted $450 EACH! but the mechanic could get a identical aftermarket one for $300. either way very overpriced so bushwackers will be next haha. thanks for all the replies! not even joking the bolts i used when i fixed it the first time look like the shorter ones dirty pool posted.

    ...too much shit to list.
Show this to your mechanic. 33's...and Toyota LBJ's (the one's installed since the recall) with factory bolts.
It's all in the bolts, torque and thread locker.

Hello all. This is interesting thread! I have a 99 PreRunner and im not sure what bolts I have in the LBJs....How can I tell if my Tacoma is affected by this and will Toyota still honor the recall? I always drive my kids around and have a 110 round trip commute to work during the week. Im paranoid now.

Go to the dealer give them the vin number and they will enter in into the computer. it will say if it has been done or not.

Is it possible the CV axle not housed in the differential completely loosened up the bolts? Even with lock tight thread locker on?
