Autozone has 2 scanners, one for 60, the other for 90. Are they good units, or is there something else I should be getting?

Money is a huge factor; I don't want to waste what little I have on something crappy. Thanks in advance for your input! :D

I got a bluetooth OBD2 from Amazon. Free app on smartphone. Works great, I had a check engine light and I was able to clear it from my phone. Shows all temps, revs, plus any obd2 stuff.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$24 and it has worked well. The only problem I have found is it doesn't work when pandora is on. Why? Who knows.

I bought a code reader from O'Reilly's. Works good for what I wanted to do. They provided a list of error codes and access to the company website for more error codes if needed.

Here is a link to what I bought.

Here is a list of the error codes.

I'd go with scangauge or ultragauge... For the money u can do much more with the ultragauge than a simple code reader and its about 20 bucks more.

Just wanted to update all yall on what's happening with this. I got the scanner from Amazon in a couple of days, and it arrived in apparently perfect condition.

My smartphone was a gift from a good friend, and had no SD card. I had a gift card from Best Buy, so I used that up for an SD card, but the phone won't read it. In a few days, I'll have the 27.00 to upgrade my phone, and I'll be able to report on how it all works! :D

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant about the SD card. Strange that you needed one.

Can't download pretty much anything to my phone w/o an SD card. I can't even take a picture, or receive any pictures, except for jpegs in the body of a message (text or email)

I can't believe this didn't occur to me right away! D'oh!

So, I swapped in a 2G card, and that didn't work, either. :(

I went to my provider, and got an upgrade for 22 bucks. Got me a Samsung S3 Mini. Love it.

I downloaded the free version of Torque right away. It works as advertised, but I will definitely get the paid version when I can figure out how to work with Google Wallet.

Within seconds of pairing the scanner with my phone, I was able to clear the error code and kill the check engine light. Stupid easy. My EGR is acting up, which is GREAT news, as I feared the Cat was going bad, and really can't afford that repair between now and June. Whew! :D

Can't ignore the value factor, either. Between being eligible for an upgrade, having an old Best Buy gift card just lying around, and Mr. Optimist's recommendation...I ended up with a new smartphone (40G memory now), and a very useful scan tool, all for less money than I would have spent at Autozone on a dedicated unit. Win!

    Thanks guys! :headbang:

    I would recommend
looking at obd car doctor. You can only look at one system at a time but it is much smoother than. Torque.

I meant the OBD device. The one listed is for an Android.

Do they make one for iPhone users?

    I got this:

    for $85 shipped off eBay.

Its an Actron 9575 that I bought to replace my ancient Actron that would no longer read newer OBDII systems. You cant go wrong with this at that price.
