No. The mounting points are different, that's why the first and second gens are always separated in stores.

 

They are? When did they change the dimensions of the mounting holes on the strut towers?

 

in 05 when they switched to 2nd gens...

 

Yeah huh, I'm surprised it is far enough off to not slip in as they both use a 3 bolt top hat.

 

The bottom uses different mount also I don't think a 2nd gen shock body will fit

 

No! The 6 lug, '04 front suspension is very different from the '05+ IFS setup. Also, the rear shocks wont work either because the top mounts are different.

 

top hat is pretty much the same..what is different is the 2n gen shocks are longer and have the long tiny extension on the lower mounts to clear CVs.

Like everyone said, the geometry is way different between the generations, BUT...
you can use the coil spring from a second gen on a 1st gen, even though it's longer.

 

Additionally, the top hat on a 2nd gen has a substantially larger bolt pattern, like 3/8-7/16 more between bolt holes. They will not interchange.
