It sounds like one of the sensors is bad, or there is a bad connection somewhere. I don't think unplugging it would fix the problem. It seems like that would turn the light on? Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

yeah I have unhooked the battery numerous times when working on other things, its just really bothering me flashing like it does. what would happen if I cut the wires and grounded them, although that would most likely blow a fuse

Been so long since I had an issue with one of these....
I would rather confirm my info before but....
    IIRC
The switch in the belt receiver is normally open.
Unplugging the buckle does nothing to help u.
The switch needs to be closed to shut off the light.
    Bad switch, bad wiring.
I'm sure there are other possibilities.
Sorry I'm not going to tell u to do something unless I'm sure....

    Ok.
    Not responsible.
Take a paper clip and back probe the wires out of the harness side of the connector and make a good connection and see if the light goes out.
Make sure the wiring is not yellow..............

Had this same problem with my 97. All I had to do was move the part that the seat belt plugs into and it went off. If I moved at all the light would come back on. I noticed I had to push it towards the shifter to get the light to go off. Hope that works. Good luck man!

Heheheh. Yea that is kinda important.

The connector you unplugged from the seat belt buckle receiver ( the part you plug the shoulder belt into)
Take a paper clip and connect the 2 wires in the connector together on the harness side. Not the buckle side. And turn the truck on and see if the light is out.

Good call on checking the plugs under the seat. Otherwise it'll be the switch in your seat belt buckle.

what's the chance this really messes something up bad?

also I have a 4ch amp under the seat, but the problem started way before I installed the amp.

but whats my chance of really messing up my electrical system or is that the way the sensor in the buckle does it?

Switch is needed to close. I'm trying to eliminate the harness side of the circuit.
