My Tacoma Steering is bad and 4X4 not working

Guys... I know nothing about cars, so that is why I come to you...
I will start with a brief description of what happend and how stupid I was...
I drove my tacoma from utah to colorado on a snowy highway hauling a trailer on 4X4 going 80m/h. Having that said, I know Im an Idiot.
Anyway.. after that the next day I try to put the truck on 4X4 and it went to 4x4 but with problems enagging and shaking very shaky almost not drivable on 4x4. The time pass and now I cannot get it to work in 4X4 If I put it on 4X4 then the car wont go no where.
Anyway... Today I made a stupid error of trying it again and totally screwed up, made the truck rattle more shaky and wont go anywhere, force it and when I remove it from 4x4 all the sudden the streering was real hard so I came out of the truck look down and had a whole bunch of liquid I dont know what it is oil or what... Anyway a small thin hose is brocken between the front axle, What is it? I dont know, maybe you guys could help me solve the problem... I t might be the steering wheel? Maybe forcing it made that to break? I dont know please help im an IDIOT!

haha.... that's a bad situation. first of all your not an idiot. I need more information on what is broken though. what kind of line is broken??? is it a metal line (for your steering rack) or a rubber (vacuum) line that's broken???

 

wow 80m/h in 4x4, thats a little too high for the 4wd unit, where was the liquid coming from??? front diff? steering? color of the liquid?

 

I think is from the steering rack, is not dark and not too oily, is not arubber hose or pipe is more like metal or hard plastic one real thin probabli 1/4 inch maybe less. And is located close to the front drivers tire and is comming from the front Axle.

Wow to snap a hard line like that, something has gotta be moving around abnormally.
Try to move all 3 of the front axles around, there should be little to no movement.

 

Like I say I was trying to get the 4x4 going on and the truck mde weird stuff pulling to the front and to the back and I think i force it too much. So then i came out of the truck and saw that, What line did I break? after this broke my steering got real hard. Please HELP!

 

Most likely it sounds and looks like your power steering line.
Check the power steering resivoir under the hood to see if its empty.

 

do you think I just broke the line? Im not at home now but I can check later, so is that line hard to replace? is it expensive to get? where can I get that from?

 

is that the return line from the power steering?

 

That is what im trying to figure it out! I know nothing about trucks, I guess it is, is that hard to replace? expensive to buy? Where do you get that part from?

 

Here are more pics of the problem, What is the name of that valve? Is aluminum there you can see one end and the other end broken (or with no pipe or valve) Do I buy it at any car place or needs to be just toyota? then also please look at the thing on top on the next picture, looks like im missing a couple of bolts there... what is it called? maybe that is what it was making the 4x4 not to work and pushed and damage the other line?

yeah...you snapped 3/4 of the bolts that connect your front driveshaft to your front diff....which in turn snapped a power steering line and beat the hell out of your bellhousing....You're gonna want to get that driveshat checked out/replaced, as well as the power steering line. Bellhousing should be fine

 

holy shit...

how does one break the bolts off that shaft? i wonder if the front differential is F'd up too?

 

Removed the drive shaft and im replacing the pressure power steering lines. I have no idea how I got those front drive shaft bolts gone. Anyway... Do you think the front drive shaft is bad? I removed it and looks fine I mean no dents or problems, other than the bolts are gone and one of then was bented completly, I just ordered new ones and replacing all bolts that connect both sides (even the ones connecting the Transfer case). Im hoping that will fix the 4x4 problem too. I will keep posting, and keep asking for advices.
btw Im replacing those 2 pressure lines $100 both, and buying bolts for both ends of front drive shaft that just cost me another $40 bucks original parts from Toyota Dealer.

 

im not sure if guessing your shaft is ok just by looking at it man...you may want to have someone check it out just to make sure..

 

hope thats all you will need, P/S pump may have been damaged from running without fluid, same with the pwr str rack and pinion

 

at most I drove that truck for about 1 mile after the Pressure line broke, I would say not even a mile maybe 1/2 mile. No noises no nothing. I will try hooking up the drive shaft and see how it goes. Ill let you guys know

 

I'd still say to get your D/S at least checked, it may look fine, but snapping off bolts like it did could REALLY throw it off balance and put you right back where you are now, if not in worse shape, it could also cause T-Case or Front diff damage if its off balance, may not feel bad to you, but gears might get tore up by even the slighteset misbalance.

So get it checked out for your own sake mayne!

 

Take drive shaft to a place that can check the ballance.
