    Hi guys,

First let me start out with saying that I've done tons of research on this site. I've found a lot of good info, but its been hard to find answers to the specific questions i have.

Like the title says, I have a 1999 standard cab with the 2.7L 4 banger. I am looking to lift it and the bilstein 5100 with the Eibach 620 lb springs seem like the best option for my budget and driving style. I am trying to achieve 2.5 or 3"

Being an engineer, I'm wondering about the 620 lb springs being too stiff. I believe the OME 881's are less, but still about 580 (correct me if I'm wrong). And, from what I understand, the eibach springs are taller and will give more lift. It seems to me that a spring with a much lower spring rate than 620 would be appropriate for the 4 cylinder.

SO, I guess my main question is will the 620lb Eibach's be too stiff in my little st. cab?

Is there anyone out there that is running this setup on a st. cab and likes/dislikes it?

    thanks TW

Im running the eibach bilstein on a 4cly ext cab. Its a solid 3"+ its stiff up front its started to break in and sag maybe .5" and loosen up a bit.

You wont regret the lift though ;)

thanks man! yeah i saw your thread but it didn't mention how you felt about the ride afterwards. yours is an extended cab right?

I drive on a gravel road almost everyday and I don't want it to rattle my nuts off you know what I mean? from everything Ive heard the bilstein/eibach should be better than stock, which I am looking forward to.

Have you flexed it out at all? any issues?

I am planning on ordering from toytec. are there any extra parts I should plan on buying?

I also have a reg cab and was worried about the common lifts being to stiff. I will stay tuned.

Ext cab yes. No i javent flexed it i dont really wheel thr truck. Ive taken it onto the dirt maybe 3x since ive owned it. May flex it after i complete the rear lift.

It rides rough but im running thr swaybar and the rear suspensions worn out..

Maybe a coilover would be be$t for you?

yeah i would like to pull the trigger on the eibach/5100 but 620lb just seems a little high for my standard cab. I was thinking of going with the tundra 5100's and 881 coils which are a little smaller spring rating.

everyone says don't mis match 5100's and OME coils, but I don't see how putting a softer coil could mess up the 5100s. the eibach spring has the highest rating I have seen for the popular aftermarket coils available.

I even saw on a 4runner site that some people were running 1st gen tundra trd springs with tundra 5100s and the ride was way smoother than OME 881's. It seems to be a consensus as well that the OME 881's are smoother than the Eibach's, even on the bilstein 5100's.

I'm not going to be driving through the whoops at the desert at 50mph so I would love to get a little softer ride but still get 3" of lift.

If anyone knows a way to achieve this with 5100's I am all ears. Maybe some springs out of another truck?

yea id say 620 is too stiff.. toytec has 3 options i think. 550, 600, and 650 all eibachs.
maybe if you had a full plate bumper w/ skids and a winch 620 would be ok.

id say if your staying stock go with 550, if your adding a bumper or skid or both go 600, if your getting bumper+skid+winch go 650.

Thanks! Thats what I'm thinking. I can't find the 500's or 550's for sale INDIVIDUALLY on any website. I would like to grab some 500's or 550's and throw them on the bilstein 5100's. Ill ask wheeler's and see if they can get something special ordered. I'm surprised I couldn't find anyone on the forum with this issue.

I noticed you used the BOSS coil overs. those are cool but I don't want to spend that much. Would be so awesome if I could find some Eibachs with the 550 lb spring rate that would give me 2.5-3" of lift and throw them on some 5100's.

*Edit check out toytecs website for their toytec coil overs:

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/ToyTec-Coil-Overs-955-04-Taco-96-02-4RUN_p_355.html

In the fine print it says (and I quote)

"Light 500lb coils are recommended for 4cyl and std cab models only and are Silver in color"

hmm your right i coulda sworn toytec had options on just individual springs but i guess not. sorry bro guess those options are only on the full coil overs.

I think it has to do with the fact that the coil seat that comes with the bilstein 5100 is definitely not flat, and the ones that come with the toytec adjustable coilovers are flat….

seems like there should be a spring out there for me...

I talked to wheelers yesterday and they recommended the OME 881 springs. I am wondering how the lift height will compare to the eibachs so I asked him to get me the unstreched sping length of the eibachs, which I don't have yet. They are supposed to call me back. I heard a lot of things about the OME springs being closer to 600lb rating on this forum, but accordin to the table the 881 and 882 are both right at 500lb. At the moment the 882 is looking like the one to get as it is almost an inch longer than the 881 and I would like close to 3" of lift.

For anyone following this thread, or trying to lift a standard cab in the future, here is a good list of OME spring rates that I found:

For a standard cab, I would run the 881s with the 10mm Enhancer kit. This will get you into the 2.5-3" range without going over, and still provide a good ride that is not overly stiff or harsh.

Thanks Dan, That's what I'm looking for! The 10mm enhancer will preload the springs but only 1 cm correct?

    I'm planning on calling shortly...

The 10mm is a top-spacer, so it does not pre-load the coils. This allows for a little extra lift without really making it stiffer.

So I ordered everything from wheeler's on tuesday. They custom assembled my coilovers and they will be at my door when I get home today!! :taco: I'm pumped!

I got the OME 881's with a 10mm extension and bilstein 5100's. I got the cheaper shocks in the back with a 2" shackle until I can afford something better. I wanted to try the shackle first and see how I like it. I also ordered a poly bushing for 10$ for the rear shackle.

I'm supposed to install on sunday morning with a buddy :burnrubber:

will upload pics when I get home

I wouldn't be surprised if you get over 3" of lift with that setup. I have a double cab with 881 and the toytec 1/4" spacer and I achieved about 3" of lift. Let us know what your results are.
