Squeeling belts at startup

About time to replace my belts. Im looking this kit:

Its a bit $$$ and Im wondering if I can just replace the belts and be good. Do I need a the included "water pump, timing belt tensioner (hydraulic auto-tensioner, not a bearing), timing belt tensioner bearing, timing belt idler bearing, thermostat with gasket, front crankshaft seal, two camshaft seals"?

 

just go to a parts store and get 3 new belts.

Or..just tighten the belts a bit. Usually the PS or Alt one that squeals. PS tensioner is kinda a pain to get to. but if they look okay just tighten them

 

If it's just a belt squeal why do you want to change the water pump and seals ect, just change the belts unless you have a lot of miles on the truck.

 

Probably should have put this in my origianl post. My belts were last done at 60k and its now at 125k. Toyota recomends replacement every 60k miles.

I dont want to drain the fluid as its pretty much new. Im thinking just the belts and maybe timing belt?

 

What he's saying is the squeal is being cause by one of the 3 belts, no need to replace the timing belt unless its giving you problems. You can just replace the 3 for like $40 or tighten them

If you ahven't done the timing belt your over due by 10k miles. Do the water pump while your at it.

You can check the tension pulleys but if they are fine..no need to replace yet.

 

Thats what I figured, damn. How do I do the timing belt? I know the knotches have to be lined up perfect... Ill have to do some searching agian...

 

yea you have to set the timing correctly. Not too bad..but time consuming. Im sure you can do it. If you can't...you shouldn't be turboing it haha

Sorry i don't know of any write ups on it...ill admit i didn't do my tacoma as i didn't have the time too as it was my only vehicle. What a waste of money..700 bucks for timing belt, water pump and new fluids around. could saved a lot of money on it. But i did my supra and it wasn't too bad.

Ill have to put in a week of vacation to knock this out, do the turbo install, and CV boot replacment.

 

id just pull the motor for that then..make it easier for the exhaust side and timing actually..

I just replaced the water pump ($80) and thermostat ($15). I had to take the (3) belts off and then re-install them to replace the pump. The squealing I had every time I turned on the AC is gone. Previous to that, I had to replace the alternator (and replaced all the belts at the same time).

I currently have 199,466 miles on the odometer. ('99 tacoma 2wd 2.4L).

The squealing is gone, but I'm not sure I had to replace the water pump.... Oh well, it was passed the time to do it anyway (I guess).

 

Yeah, I think mine were squealing because the belts were loose. Tightened them up and g2g.
