    What does this vacuum diaphragm do in regards to the butterfly position on the throttle body? Its highlighted in this diagram.

    It's called a "Dashpot". It "eases" the abrupt slamming shut of the throttle valve on manual trans trucks during gear changes. The lag in the closure helps to keep (momentarily) engine RPM in a more appropriate range in the gear change process, in spite of driver input.

    Not according to Toyota. I have never fooled with any auto Tacomas, so I can't provide first hand confirmation. Have you seen them on autos? It would seem pointless.
