Should I buy this?

I have a 2000 single cab 4x4 tacoma. The lack of inside space is killing me and I very much want an extended cab. I found this one for sale near me:
It's a '96 SR5 V6 with 228000 miles. He's asking $5200 for it. I'm considering selling the single cab for this truck. What do all of you think?

Get a canopy/toolbox?..

 

I have a toolbox on my truck. Mine has 180000 on it. But yes, it does have a lit on it.

Skip. Too much money. A topper is cheaper than getting a different vehicle. Plus you don't know what could be wrong on this other one vs your current truck.

 

That's not a terrible amount of miles considering that it's a Yota, but then again, you don't know how the previous owner(s) treated the truck, and how regular/thorough the maintenance was. See if you can knock down the price some?

 

The guy is willing to take 4500. I have a potential buyer (potential assuming I decide to sell my truck) offering 6200 for my truck.

 

Personally i wouldn't buy a truck with more miles than mine.. Id try to get one with less miles and in better shape and pay a little more.. I have a d cab, and used to have a reg cab.. I understand your reasoning but id pass

 

I also don't like that it has automatic hubs.

 

If it the history is clean on the truck, I would consider it, looks clean

 

It is clean, one owner, the guy is in his 30's. Clean title. Interior in good shape.

 

Do you know anything about its past maintenance?

 

Only the "I've changed oil every 3500 miles and spark plugs were changed about 12000 ago." No engine rebuilds. I don't know anything about the clutch.

 

Everybody selling a car or truck has changed the oil every 3000 miles or so they say.... Look for signs that they take care of things like their yard/house/garage that will tell you alot about a person....Just saying.

Everything on it clean. And it doesn't leak, no funny smells or sounds. And the oil is still honey-colored.

 

I decided against it, as I'm unsure if it'll pass smog in California with it being an Oregon vehicle it's whole life.

 

I'd do $4000. No more. I don't care if it's a Toyota or not. That's a lot of miles.

 

I agree with this. Look on craigslist and see if you can find a topper.
