Will it Work

I am buying an 01 tacoma extra cab with a blown 4 cylinder motor for 700 bucks. It only has 111 thousand miles on it. If I find an older 2.7 that has a distributor can I make that motor work on a non distributor motor?

I dont really understand your question. Do you just need to replace the distributor or talking about a engine swap. I would take it to a machine shop so they can rebuild the motor it may be cheaper than a engine shop iam not sure. A "blown" engine can mean anything like running it without oil letting it overheat. Spark plugs need to be replaced, etc.

 

Ok to clarify. One of the connecting rods came out the side so the block is junk. If I get an earlier 2.7 that has a distributor can I block off where the diz goes into the motor and make that motor work with coil packs which is what I understand toyota changed to later on. And this is a gas motor.

 

And I'm saying go diesel if you're replacing the motor go diesel.

 

I actually got this truck to replace the motor and then sell it so the deisel motor is out of the question.

the distributor was only used in like 95.5-96 trucks so the coil pack engines are actually alot easier to find... but as for you question you would probably HAVE to use the coil pack head fo it to work
