you know the box on the intake that is right above the exhuast...it gets real hot when veh is running...think about that your intake has a huge box that gets heated by the exhuast....so i unbolted it from engine...cut the box off with a reciprocating saw and then welded up the hole in the intake tube using the part i cut off the box that has the air tube in it....tons of low end pick up and you can really hear the air going into truck now... i think this is the best mod yet... really helps....cant wait to open the deck plate up and see what happens

Or...you could just get a cold-air intake system:) They completely eliminate the box and all the intermediate connectors, etc, for a nice smooth flow tube for the air from the MAF to the manifold. I left the heat shield from the box in place for added heat shielding (duh) for the new cold air system. I can feel the added torque from 3000rpm on up. They're certainly not cheap, though.

yeah but on the dyno i lost 6hp with a cold air intake on a previous truck so i like to keep the stock airbox intact...even if it does have a deck plate in it...oh yeah and i measured i have a 4" deckplate...not 3.5 like i thought
