I have a 98 Tacoma 4X4 that just failed its first smog test for NOX. NOX means EGR so I looked high and low for the EGR valve and couldn't find it. Running out of time, I reluctantly went to the dealer and told him I needed the EGR valve replaced. When I called back, after they did a diagnosis, he told me it doesn't have an EGR valve!!!

The diagnosis said a bad O2 sensor, so I had it replaced and it passed smog.

But how does Toyota get by with no EGR? Anyone got a clue?

They use a 3 way cat. No EGR.
