Original plug wires, truck idles smooth still

Looked at my plug wires on my 02 V6 tacoma and I can see "2001". My question is since my truck idles smooth and I'm getting 300 miles per tank on the highway, would these even be worth replacing now or should I wait til they go bad? I know NGK will only run me around $30 but I'm still curious how these wires can be 13 years old with no issues. Do they rarely to bad?

I should add the truck has just under 16k on the original wires.

EDIT: Forgot to put a 2nd "1" in there.

So the truck works fine and you're looking to mess with it?

Haha that thought has been in the back of my head. If it ain't broke, don't fix it has always been the safe way.

My only real issue is with low idle. 500-600rpm when hot, in drive sitting at a light. Just trying to get my idle up and thought this night fix that.

EDIT: I've cleaned the IAC, TB, and MAF. Idles still a little low. Put on new plugs too.

Ever heard the term "don't fix what isn't broke"?

That's about a normal idle in drive. I would just drive it.

The real question is how do you only have 16k on your 2002 and where is it located so I can steal that shit?

Got a neighbour with the 3.4l and I've had to drive it a few times. (i've got 2nd gen). It idles about 500-600, and its so smooth you'd think the engine has turned off. Thats how it runs.

Should add that we also replaced his stock wires (at 160k) with denso wires because he wanted to while doing spark plugs. He thought it added more to the butt dyno, but I'd expect its probably just psychological.

My uncle got it a 4 or 5 years ago with 68k on it and traded it to me with just under 99k. He never drove as he works less than 300 yards from his front door so he walked to work. Truck was a little neglected on the services so that's where I'm at with the truck.

I traded him my 01 with 214k and I hate to say but I had that truck running as good or better than this one.

Ok thank you for clearing that up. I always assume that if it belongs to me, there's gotta be something wrong as my luck is total shit most of the time.

I'm half dumb I think. I mean 116k. Where's the emoji for dummy???

I had my Cadillac on my brain when I posted this. 1989 El dorado with under 16k on it. I need some sleep.

That it is in the pic. I just hopped in to take a pic. Turned the truck on but didn't start it.

I would replace them. Toyota says 30k on the plugs and 60k on the wires. Apparently some people here haven't heard of preventative maintenance. You don't need to change your oil if the truck is running fine I guess.

When I did mine, I bought NGK plugs and wires from Advance Auto online. They have 30% going right now, and if a local store has the parts in stock you can save on shipping. Or free shipping over $75. TRT30 is the code.

I wasn't aware plug wires were a regular maintenance item unless they had visual dry rot.
