What's up guys? first post here. I work at a restyling shop here in arkansas Installing sunroofs, & have been installing them since 2006. Well, I picked up my 04 double cab back in feb. & our sunroof supplier (Webasto) offered me a free inbuilt sunroof for my truck to use as a sales example truck. I couldn't turn it down! Anyways, I installed the Webasto 730 inbuilt Roof & it came out perfect.

started by measuring out my hole & getting it cut & prepped for the roof to go in

next got the Roof in & clamped up using a loctite two part metal to metal bonder

next I attached the drain tubes & applied a solid foam above them to prevent any chance of them going uphill over time & causing a leak. All the tubes exit the bottom of the truck at the factory toyota drain hole locations.

Next since I have to cut the factory headliner board to make room for the sunroofs body, I decided to make a one off headliner substrate board & attach it to the sunroof wrapped in foam so in the end, the trucks headliner can remain as solid as possible. (most aftermarket roofs have a "floated" headliner)
also I opted to move the factory dome light to the rear of the cab

I chose to mount the sunroof switch in the dash just left of the center air vents ( tight fit btw :p)

lastly I cut & recovered my headliner with fresh factory matched fabric & installed it in the truck

It came out awesome in the end & I couldn't be happier with it.

any questions about the install or sunroofs in general, just ask. As I said i've been installing for years now & have over 2500 installs under my belt.

So on a scale from 1 - bring it to you, how hard is it to install one of these? I'm guessing the headliner is the tough part?

It's not to hard just a ton of steps involved & a lot of time & patents, the headliner is the hardest part just because there is so many angles & measurements to account for when laying it all out to get a nice factory look in the end. Experience is really what makes it look good. My first 10 or so didn't look so hot :p

best option on an extended cab is a top slider http://www.webasto.com/us/markets-p...roofs/our-sunroofs/full-feature-spoiler-roof/ full powered of course

or a popup as you mentioned http://www.webasto.com/us/markets-products/car/aftermarket-sunroofs/our-sunroofs/pop-up-roof/

popups are cheaper to get done, ballpark probably $600-$800 we don't install them at our shop (just powered roofs)

Man that looks awesome! Wish there was someone in N.O. that did this kind of work. Would love to have a sunroof, esp. with the weather down here. So $1250 would get me the on that slides up and over the truck, basically appearing as a spoiler on the roof? Lol

Every shop is gonna price it different, but for an inbuilt roof that slides inside the truck we charge $1250 for any tacoma first gen or second. The top sliders your referring to, we do a little cheaper at @1000. Oh & it takes about 6-8 hours to install one. I can do them quicker, but try to take my time if the customer isn't in a huge rush.

Does the top slider stick out like a sore thumb when its open? As in, is it one that will basically look like a spoiler? Or is it one that sticks relatively close to the roof? Cause ive seen some trucks with aftermarket sunroofs like that and it just looks stupid. 6-8 hours isn't bad. Might take a drive up to Arkansas when I have some money and get it done. You do some quality work man.

yeah it sticks out like a sore thumb lol. I don't care for them, but i'll gladly take your money if that's what you want :p inbuilt roof is the way to go.

Haha that's what I was worried about. Looks like I'd have to with the in-built one. You definitely have a future customer right here lol

that's badass man. And it seems like that's a pretty reasonable price as well. Do they come with a warranty? I've heard of some leaking over time. Just curious.
