    Hey Tacoma World peeps...

    I have a 2004 TRD 4x4 - 4 Door Tacoma.... 122k miles...

I would like to change the brakes.. pads and rotors...

I was on rockauto but I don't know what I need...

any help?? what brake system does we have on this model? any brand better than the next? do I do the parking brake at the same time as the full brake job?

Do yourself a favor. Spend $300 and upgrade to Tundra front brakes. Rotors, Calipers and pads. Trim the dust shield behind the rotors about 1/2" on both sides and drill out the banjo bolt. I did it last week in about 3 hours and couldn't be happier. You'll thank me later.

    Powestop rotor/pad kit.
    117.00 if u don't have stability control.
Cross drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads.
Parking brake uses the rear brake shoes.
I woukd pull the rear drums and inspect the shoes and drums in the back while you're at it though.
My stock brakes work pretty dang good. It's hard to believe that 300.00 to upgrade to tundra brakes is worth it. Not saying it's not since I have not experienced the difference myself. But I dont see a need to increase the stopping power on my truck. Buts its just a DD/ Mall crawler.
Maybe if doing serious off roading? Or moving heavy loads or towing.
Only my near sited opinion. Not looking to pick a fight. Lol.

Also, I have a 95 reg cab 4x4 2.7l 5 speed, so I'm as light as they come!

I thought the same way until...

I added a steel bumper, skids, 33's and a winch (eventually)
Now I feel brake fade pretty often.

Ive been researching/compiling parts for the TBU for a few months. For me, I know very soon I will be needing new rotors and pads. Might as well get Tundra stuff!

I'm not sure. Ordered everything from Autozone and used 2005 Tundra 4x4 parts. The calipers are the larger units that Toyota started using in '05.
