As far as I can tell with my multimeter, I don't have parasitic draw. 0.00mA. But I have this sound in the morning. Clicking over the solenoid, but no cranking. This morning I had to jump it.

This has been happening of late. Click...click...(pray)... click...Start. I replaced the battery yesterday with a new one. I replaced the copper starter contacts in my starter 3 years ago.

What does this sound like to you?

Sounds like a bad solenoid or the starter has a short in the windings.

sounds like you need to replace the starter contacts again.
Check and CLEAN all connections first.
A low battery would click-click click - fast.

Sounds like a starter to me. Battery has enough juice to pull in the solenoid contacts and keep them there. A low battery charge would (as previously mentioned) not be able to maintain the circuit and you would hear the starter solenoid clicking...repeatedly. Your starter needs some tlc.

Thanks for your reply on my starter problem. I installed a new one from NAPA. Nippon-Denso. Turned the key and it immediately turned the engine over in a clean start, but the new starter wouldn't disengage. A cursory look on the internet suggests something called "shimming" a starter, but no one says that Toyotas need "shimming." Ever heard of this? Do you think I just got a bad (new) starter?

    never heard that before.
Is it exactly the same as the previous toyota starter???
Misaligned? will it only install one way?
If I remember correctly, My 91 would only go in one way.
Do you have a way to check it out of the truck.
    I used a battery charger.
Ground to case and positive to solenoid contact.
    should operate FREELY.
MAN thats a pain in the ass- to need to take it out again.
    keep us posted

I would run down and pick up a new starter relay and try that first. You pulled the old batt down and ran some serious juice thru it trying to start. It might have nuked or severely strained the old relay underhood in the fuse box.

It's a 1998 relay, if you have never changed it before??.
