    Oh joy.

I solved my problem by installing a new starter. Not rebuilt, mind you, but new NipponDenso. it's grinding even after the engine starts.

Here's what it sounds like after bolting it up. What's the trick? Why isn't it disengaging? Where did I go wrong?

It was the wrong size starter. NAPA sold me the wrong product. Their computer was wrong.

I installed another won. Problem solved. The gear wasn't retracting enough to clear the fly-wheel.

By the way, for future reference, my 3.4 V6 5fz-fe manual transmission has a 1.8 kw starter, not a 1.4kw starter. In case someone is looking for an answer.

Sucks when you install the wrong won because of other peoples mistakes.
